Background

I obtained my master’s and PhD degrees from ETH Zürich. During my PhD studies with Ari Helenius, I studied how non-enveloped viruses penetrate the host cell membrane. Then, I joined the laboratory of Antonio Lanzavecchia at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) as a SystemsX postdoctoral fellow.

My research focused on metabolic regulation of T cell responses. In 2016, I moved to Munich and joined the research group of Matthias Mann at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. I received training in mass spectrometry-based proteomics. In 2017, I started my own research group at the IRB with the goal to study immune responses to tumors using systems biology approaches. Currently, I am Group Leader and Associate Professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI).

Research

T cells are key players in the immune system with the ability to detect and eliminate infected cells and tumors. We study molecular regulations underlying T cell activation and anti-tumor activity. For this, we use a wide range of technologies including mass spectrometry-based proteomics, functional genomics, mouse models and microfluidics-based systems. Our projects aim to provide detailed insights into T cell functionality that can be translated into the clinic to improve therapies.
