Background
I completed my Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Biology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. During my period as an undergraduate student, I visited the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin and was able to apply different gene editing methods to treat a rare muscle dystrophy. Through this experience, I gained a profound interest on the molecular mechanisms of disease. In May 2024 I joined the Esteban Ballestar Lab in order to carry out my PhD.
Research
During my bachelor's thesis, I applied different gene editing approaches based on CRISPR/Cas strategies to target a mutation causing Limb girdle muscular dystrophy, a disease characterized by progressive muscular weakness. In my master's thesis, I transitioned to a different research field, using experimental and computational techniques to identify a potential immunomodulatory compound in immune cells.
